Lao Agricultural Production and Processing
The Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI), acting as the Secretariat of the Lao Business Forum, organized a business consultation meeting for the Lao agricultural production and processing sector. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Bounleuth Luangpaseuth, Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Head of the Business Consultation Working Group for the Lao Agricultural Production and Processing Sector, with the participation of representatives from the Lao Agricultural Business Association and other business groups and associations, totaling 30 delegates in attendance.
Key Challenges and Policy Proposals for Lao Agriculture
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the opportunities and challenges currently faced in the service sector, identify critical issues, and propose new solutions to promote the improvement of state-issued policies or regulations to foster and strengthen capacity;
The meeting raised several proposals for discussion regarding the Lao agricultural production and processing sector, including:
- Management and use of agricultural land.
- Protection of domestic producers and determination of price structures.
- Production factors, standards, and measures to promote exports.
- Access to capital to promote domestic production.
- Infrastructure development and domestic freight transport, especially transportation via the Laos - China railway.
- The issuance of sub-law documents by various sectors at the central and local levels.
Advancing Public-Private Sector Dialogue
Following this meeting, the Secretariat of the Lao Business Forum, permanently based at the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in coordination with the Consultation Working Group for the Lao Agricultural Production and Processing Sector, will compile and select the priority issues proposed by the delegates and prepare a proposal of these issues to submit to the relevant state agencies for study and preparation for the consultation meeting between the public sector and the business sector in the next phase.
